Jo: We stayed for 3 nights at this great B&B in a lovely location. The hosts (English and French couple) and their family were welcoming and relaxed. We had a large bedroom, bathroom and lounge for our own use. The breakfasts were varied and delicious and we ate in one night - a superb four course dinner with drinks. The other two nights we ate in the attractive town of Hesdin, around 10minutes drive away. Of the three meals, Madeleine's was the best. We highly recommend this B&B and will be back.

What a perfect place - just what we were looking for at the end of our 3 weeks in France and ideally located for a stop before the channel ports.
We were greeted by Madeleine and her wonderful daughter, served tea and coffee, and the boys had juice and biscuits. We were immediately made to feel so welcome - almost part of the family. Our boys played on the trampoline, cuddled the guinea pig and chased the ducks! And special thanks to Xavier for taking the boys on his combine harvester and tractor at the farm -and for letting us have a go at milking the cows! Must be one of the highlights of our holiday.
The rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. The bathroom was huge! Beds very comfortable.
We had a great evening sitting round the KITCHEN table with Madeleine's family and neighbours drinking wine and eating cheese - we couldn't have felt more at home.
Breakfast was delicious - warm croissants and pain au chocolat - perfect to set us up for the long DRIVE home. We'd highly recommend a stay here - either en route to somewhere else or as a holiday in its own right - Madeleine is the perfect host and her house is the perfect place to stay!

We really enjoyed our stay with Madeleine, Xavier and their family. The house is beautiful, in a peaceful setting with a fantastic garden. The bedrooms and bathroom were well presented and comfortable, and the meals provided were delicious and plentiful.
Our 4 year old son particularly enjoyed the tour of Xavier's tractor, combine harvester and the new born calves.
The house is easy to find and a welcome stop after the journey from England.
Many thanks.

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour chez Madeleine et sa famille. L'endroit est calme et reposant. La maison est conforme à la description. Madeleine nous a préparé de très bons petits déjeuners. Ce sera à refaire avec plaisir.

brandysparkle: A modern property located in a beautiful, very rural location, but with other properties nearby. We used Google maps to locate Le Petit Chateau.
The room and bathroom were very clean, reasonably spacious and well up to date
The host family is French-English.
An evening meal was offered, it was a delicious meal, the best we had on our two week French holiday.
Madelaine made our one night stay most enjoyable. She is friendly, outgoing and it was most interesting to learn about living in France.

Great location and lovely surroundings.
Had a warm welcome when we arrived. A hot drink or a beer was offered.
Madeleine gave us good local information and even drew us a map of Hesdin square highlighting the local restaurants.
Rooms were comfortable and clean.
Hope to go back in the summer and sit by the river and maybe catch a trout.

Superb second visit!
Once again we stayed at Madeleine & Zaviier's B&B - so accessible for a short break in France yet not too far from Calais. Felt very welcome, lovely big room, delicious breakfasts and another excellent dinner one evening. Lovely peaceful location yet plenty to see and do in the area. Madeleine and Zavier go out of their way to help with local information. Can't recommend highly enough.

Janet and Geoff Forster: Spent a wonderful relaxing weekend with friends. Have often driven through this part of France on holiday without realising what we were missing. Accommodation and food excellent...would definitely recommend Madeleine and Xaviers home cooking. Lots of it and very tasty! Most importantly we were made to feel very welcome. Just like visiting old friends. Will definitely be back.

A peaceful setting in the countryside of Northern France.Opinion par: Stewart Coleman, Nov 9 2014 8:18PM
We stayed at Le Petit Chateau during a weekend break in Northern France with some friends. We drove to the accommodation from Calais and found the journey to be relatively straight forward following first the A16 motorway (note that part of this route is a toll road), and then the D939 before switching to the local roads to the village of Willeman. Our hosts had kindly provided instructions for the journey but if you are making the journey yourself, you may find it an advantage to have either a Sat Nav or a good map to help you.
Le Petit Chateau, is located at one end of a pretty little village street and near to the seventeenth century manor house, Manoir de Vallières Chateu. It is an attractive brick built building which sits in its own grounds and features running water passing through the garden and joining with the stream which runs through the village. The village itself is surrounded by farmland and has minimal passing traffic so is very quiet and at night time when we arrived, dark enough to clearly see the stars in the night sky, and hear owls hooting.
It is fair to say that none of our party are fluent in French, however this was not a problem at the accommodation as your hostess Madeleine is English and fluent in French.
The room accommodation is located on the ground floor and consists of two bedrooms, one double and one twin, and a separate large bathroom equipped with basin, bath, shower, bidet and toilet. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the windows fitted with manually operated blinds which when closed shuts out all external light. The double room was equipped with a large wardrobe and drawer unit with room lights switchable from the bedside. A small dressing table with tea and coffee making facilities and a bottle of water, was also available through there was no mirror in the room. A television was provided though we did not use this facility. We had no problems sleeping at night and found the double bed very comfortable as it had a MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS.
Guests may use the living room which also doubles as the dining room having a table at one end and armchairs and a sofa at the other. The venue has a folder of pamphlets detailing local attractions if you are seeking ideas for trips out.
Our hosts provided some very good meals during our stay including a small meal for our (late) arrival on Friday night, which was very well received as we had been travelling since early afternoon. Breakfasts were a mixture of croissants, pain au chocolates, fruit and yoghurts accompanied by fruit juices tea and coffee. On the Saturday evening we were treated to a fabulous four course meal of traditional French cuisine which was very well cooked and satisfying, evening meals were served complete with wine
If you have the time, it is worth taking a walk through the village of Willeman following the road from the old Chateau up to the lovely OLD VILLAGE church with its war memorial and churchyard, unfortunately we were unable to enter the church at the time of our visit (early evening). The road follows the stream running through the village and the surrounding fields some with livestock, makes it a very pleasant walk especially if working up an appetite for the evening meal.
The village of Willeman provides a well-placed base for exploring a region of Northern France soaked in history and during our visit we made trips to the city of Arras, the battlefields of Vimy Ridge and Azincourt and also the SEASIDE RESORT of Le Touquet.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Petit Chateau, we were made most welcome by our hosts and because the accommodation does not have the formality of a more conventional BED AND BREAKFAST the experience is more akin to spending the weekend with friends at their house. We would recommend a stay here for families; or couples looking to explore this part of France or even those with an interest in military history and keen to explore the various battlefields in this region.
